Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.
– Ezra 10:11
This scripture really stood out to me, because it reminds us of the need to separate ourselves from the world. As Christians, we are told that we should be in the world but not of the world. Therefore we should be serious about living out holy lives to the glory of God.
Very often this means separating ourselves from ‘the world’.
And what is the world?
Lust.
Greed.
Pride.
Envy.
I could go on, but in short, Sin.
In the tenth chapter of Ezra, the Israelites realised the depth of sin they had found themselves in and in order to demonstrate their remorse, they agreed to separate themselves from their foreign wives.
We need the same attitude today in 2016. Our attitude should be “whatever is stopping me from serving God and living a holy life, I will separate myself from it ASAP”.
God help us to separate ourselves accordingly in Jesus name amen.
