At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.
-Isaiah 17:7
A few weeks ago I was in the middle of organising a careers conference for law students. When the fateful day finally arrived, I decided to pop into my local superstore to pick up a few things.
As I was walking, a young guy stopped me:
Him: Excuse me…why don’t girls like me?
Me: (listening to my music in my headphones and probably singing along, I take one ear out) sorry?
Him: No girls like me and I don’t know why.
What transpired was a 30 minute conversation about self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence. Of course I couldn’t have stood there without going back to the Good News. I encouraged my young friend to focus less on the girls and focus more on God.
We have all been there haven’t we? So obsessed with seeking outside approval that we completely disregard our Maker.
Let’s refocus.
God is the One who has identified each and every one of us. In Him we have an identity.
So stop looking to those around you for validation. Look to your Maker and respect the Holy One, Abba Father, Elohim, The I Am That I Am, YAHWEH.
