I am so looking forward to Christmas, it is unbelievable.
As part of my excitement, I am revisiting the book of Matthew, and specifically Matthew 2.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
This is one of my favourite verses in this chapter, because it reveals an insight into what happens when we get in God’s presence and encounter Him:
First, we SEE God.
Then we bow down.
We open up.
We present gifts.
It reads quite simply, but you cannot underestimate the importance of being transparent and open before God. You see, He already sees our heart and nothing is hidden before Him, so we are just doing ourselves a favour by being honest with God when we enter His presence.
Isn’t that funny? God already knows.
The bible tells us in Galatians 6:7 that God is not mocked, and whatsoever a man sows, so shall he reap. So when we come into his presence, we must start by being honest about our shortcomings, our indiscretions, our sins etc.
Repentance is key. In fact, repentance is THE key that unlocks the door to forgiveness.
It is so importance that we repent of every sin, whether known or unknown, hidden or visible. Maybe I am going on about this a little because I have felt that I have been running from God in the past. Not because I don’t love Him, but because I wasn’t willing to be that honest with Him or myself, to be that vulnerable, that trusting, because for me, this comes back to trust – and failure to trust or believe God is a sin in itself.
So let’s try.
God Himself knows that as I write this, I do so with a list of things that I have deceived myself about this past year. Thankfully I could never deceive Him and as a result, I couldn’t deceive myself for that long either.
But I have tried in the past. So now I commit myself to trusting Him more than I trust myself. It starts with the decisions you make today, the thoughts that enter your mind, what you say with your mouth and the actions that follow.
Let’s try. You will be amazed by what happens when you get into His presence….
