“After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”
– Luke 10:1-2
It is a universally accepted truth that whilst there remains a great harvest of souls, there will only be few people willing to do the work.
So the question I ask you today is two-fold:
When was the last time you witnessed to someone about Jesus?
When was the last time you sincerely prayed regarding the harvest, that God would send more like-minded, burdened individuals to do His work?
You see, the enemy doesn’t care how long we talk and sermonise about prayer, but you find that he does all he can to distract, derail and delay us, until eventually he stops us from actually praying.
Life will always bring excuses, but thank God that He does not rely on numbers to get this work done, but rather that He is looking for those who would be obedient to His call and pray – and if there is a person who can pray, there is a God who can answer.
Christ gave each and every one of us a job to do. The great commission is to go into all the world and PREACH THE GOSPEL. This is our shared aim, our common goal, our collective objective – but we cannot do it without the Holy Spirit, so if we do not have a burden for the lost, dare I say it we need to go back to the One who sent us and pray for that burden again.
What do we need?
Is it boldness?
Is it passion?
Is it compassion?
Whatever it is, we must pray.
Dear Father, restore and renew in us a burden for those who are lost. Help us to not just pray when we feel like it, but to have an appointment with you to pray, regardless of circumstance.
