Day 23: The Importance of Being (Earnestly) Obedient

19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: 20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
– Isaiah 1:19-20

There is always a blessing attached to obedience. One of the things I love about God is that He is balanced, and with Him, obedience breeds a balance. We only have to read about Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Samuel, David……you get the idea.

On the other hand however, we should also know that disobedience attracts a curse. We only have to read about Simeon and Levi, Pharoah, Miriam, Eli, Saul, Ahab, Gehazi etc. Not all of these people were wicked evildoers, some just made one-time, once-off mistakes, but their disobedience did not go unpunished.

REMEMBER, Sin in Sin – there is no hierarchy!

Have you lied and forgotten about it?

Have you gossiped and downplayed it?

Have you slept with your partner and excused it?

Have you been unforgiving and validated it?

Whatever the sin, we need God’s help to sort it out.

Today, I pray that we will look at our lives and if there is any way we have disobeyed/are disobeying, we will repent and ask the Holy Spirit to help us to become obedient. May we bring that area/thing under subjection to the Holy Spirit and the power contained in God’s word.

If you will be willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land – emphasis on obedient…it’s never to late to fall in line with God’s word.
